Ashdale Care staff have incredibly important roles, helping to transform the lives of children who have suffered trauma. But while they work hard, and some days are challenging, they are always determined to have some fun! Here’s six fun reasons why working at Ashdale Care is so rewarding…

1.Nights out

Working in the houses with our young people is rewarding, but can also be full-on. So our fabulous house teams love to organise nights out and activities, where everyone can just let their hair down.

2.Thinking of you

Our team spend their working lives thinking of others – and sometimes don’t get to spend those special days with family or loved ones – so we like to show we’re thinking of them. For example, we arranged for our wonderful team to receive roses on Valentine’s Day and fabulous pink cakes and balloons on International Women’s Day. Sometimes these little things can really mean a lot!

3.Organisational Days

Ashdale Care is growing all the time, so it’s more important than ever to get everyone together. Our Organisational Days and Summer Parties brings the whole Ashdale Care community together. It gives us all a chance to relax, get to know colleagues in different houses and departments, have fun and feel part of the great team we are! There’s always something different happening at these events – whether it’s a petting farm or a pizza van!

4.Helping others

The very nature of our work at Ashdale Care means that our Ashdale community is full of people who care about others. And while the main focus is of course on the children and young people in our care, they always have time to make a difference in other people’s lives. For instance, to support two of our colleagues whose children have diabetes, we committed to doing squats every day to raise funds for Diabetes Ireland and JDRF (many of us now have thighs of steel!).

5.Being competitive

We like to spice things up by introducing a little competition into our lives. Whether it’s voting for the best pumpkin carving at Halloween, or clocking up the miles as a team when we all decided to walk two miles a day for the Irish Association for Cancer Research, we love to inject a little healthy competition! And of course there’s alway a prize for our winners! (Cake, anyone?)

6.Dressing up.

From Christmas to World Book Day, there’s often an excuse for some fancy dress. Here’s our very own Senior Social Worker Jenni Layden, dressed up as Ms Trunchbull for World Book Day – didn’t she look the part?!
